I’m really sorry to have heard what happened with your son.
I’ve been to the Cordillera Blanca and Ancash region. Peru is incredibly beautiful and hiking through the trails was breathtaking and like hiking through a gorgeous painting in the Huarascan national park. Yes the altitude was dizzying and strong, I’ve never felt so short of breath before.
Peru was the most incredible country (my first time solo in a foreign country) but it has hidden dangers, and can be quite unsafe if you are at the wrong place at the wrong time.
